Ana understood exactly what I was looking to do; she evaluated my piano playing (kindly); didn't waste any time and we jumped right in. She was very gentle, made me feel very comfortable, and she was so helpful. Gave me the guidance and support I need to move forward.
Robin M.Piano Lessons
Both my daughters love piano after the first free lesson and want to practice all the time. My 5 year old had a blast and was engaged every minute. My 9 year old also loved it ... we look forward to many more piano lessons.

Frequently Asked Questions

What's the difference between online and in-person piano lessons?

If you’re seeking flexibility in scheduling and affordable pricing, online lessons might be the ideal choice for you! Our live 1-on-1 online lessons are thoughtfully designed to be as effective as in-person lessons, providing convenience from the comfort of your own home.

Online lessons offer the advantage of learning piano at your own pace and on a schedule that suits you. The key factors to consider when selecting a piano lesson are the quality of the teacher, personalized instruction, and reasonable pricing.

Why choose Lesson With You?

We are proud to offer incredibly experienced piano teachers who are specialized in piano. Unlike other websites where a piano instructor teaches other instruments like singing and guitar, our teachers exclusively teach piano. What's the best age for children to start piano lessons?

The ideal age for a child to begin piano lessons is between the ages of 7 and 9. It also depends on your child’s individual development, especially their motor skills and their interest in learning the piano.

At Lesson With You, we welcome piano students aged 6 and up. For children who are too young to read music, our piano instructors provide instruction with fun activities like rhythm games, ear training, and improvisation.

What equipment and technology do you use for online piano lessons?

At Lesson With You, piano students will need lesson equipment in addition to a high-speed internet connection. This includes a piano or an 88-key keyboard, a computer or laptop, and lesson books. We use Zoom as our live lesson platform.

We do not recommend using a mobile device for lessons. If you have any questions or concerns about the equipment or lesson setup, feel free to reach out to our client service team, and we’ll be happy to assist you!

What type of piano or keyboard should I buy?

When purchasing a keyboard, there are three factors to consider: 88 keys, weighted keys, and sound quality. Regardless of your skill level, whether you’re a beginner or an advanced pianist, you should buy a piano with at least 88 keys. Make sure to get a keyboard with fully weighted keys, which typically provide good sound quality and offer greater touch sensitivity and dynamic range similar to an acoustic piano.

How often should my child practice piano, and for how long?

The frequency and duration of piano practice may vary depending on your schedule, age, level and goals. Our piano teachers recommend setting aside a consistent time each day for practice, ideally for an average of 15 minutes for children above 10. For children under 10, it’s recommended to practice for an average of 10 minutes each day.

The key is to practice consistently, commit to the routine and enjoy learning piano over time.

How long does it actually take for a child to learn piano?

How quickly a child learns piano depends on how often they practice, their goals, and their natural ability. With regular practice and guidance from a skilled teacher, many kids build a strong foundation over a few years.

For children learning just for fun, practicing around 10 minutes a day is a great place to start. If your child wants to progress faster or prepare for competitions, more focused practice and performance experience will help them grow even more.

What can my child expect out of live online piano lessons?

In piano lessons, your child will first learn how to set up the keyboard and screen for comfortable playing. They’ll start exploring the instrument and gradually build both technical skills and musical creativity, all while developing a practice routine suited to their age and level

Teachers often include simple warm-ups and exercises to help strengthen finger coordination once your child begins reading the notes. During lessons, your child will play music they’ve been practicing and get tips on how to improve their technique, posture, and musical expression. Over time, they’ll grow in music reading, theory, and confidence with a variety of pieces.

Are live online piano lessons better than apps or pre-recorded classes?

Absolutely! Unlike self-learning piano from books, apps, and pre-recorded classes, live online lessons let you interact with teachers and get real-time feedback. During these live sessions, your instructor can observe and listen to your piano playing and give practical guidance on how to improve every aspect. They can also demonstrate the correct piano techniques, so you can observe their finger movements in real-time.

This interactive setting, involving observation, imitation, practice, and improvement, is the most effective way to learn piano.
