Guitar Lessons
We highly recommend Lessons With You. Our eight-year-old son started online learning to play the guitar with his instructor, Jeff Frantom, in August. Jeff is a fabulous teacher and has great teaching techniques for children. He is patient and positive, and that has really kept my son very engaged and excited about his lessons with Jeff. He encourages our son and goes out of his way to find music that is relatable and interesting and helps him grow as a beginner guitar player.

Frequently Asked Questions
What’s the difference between online and in-person guitar lessons?
Private online guitar lessons are very similar to in-person lessons, except more affordable and more convenient. Live online lessons are becoming more popular since you can interact in real time in the comfort of your home. In each online lesson, you will need to set up a few equipments such computer, microphone, webcam and lesson book.
How much do guitar lessons cost?
The average price for a half hour guitar lesson in Rockford is $37, although Lesson With You charges only $30. Live online lessons using Zoom or Skype charge between $25-50 for a half hour lesson. Local private one-on-one guitar lessons range from $35-50 for a half hour lesson, while in-person group lessons can cost $25 for a half hour lesson.
Guitar lesson pricing can vary widely depending on the teacher’s education and performing level, the location, years of teaching guitar and lesson length. In-person private lessons typically charge more than online lessons, and the cost of individual or group guitar lessons start as low as $30 per hour.
How old should children be before starting guitar lessons?
We accept guitar students age 5 and up, although students under 13 should have a parent in the room with them for successful lessons. For children who are young to read music right away, we encourage our teachers to provide a fun musical instruction. This includes rhythm games, ear training, and even improvisation in order to develop your child’s musical abilities.
There are many sizes of guitar, with small ones available even for small children. Our support line is available to help you figure out what size guitar is best for your child.
How do online guitar lessons work for beginners?
First, it’s important to let your guitar instructor know your goals and interests. What style are you looking for? Is it electric, or acoustic? Do you like heavy metal and rock, pop or classical?
Then, our instructor will make recommendations from getting the right instrument, equipment and lesson book (if applicable). After scheduling a regular guitar lesson, try practicing on a regular basis. There’s no rush – what matters for beginners is finding the right practice routine and commit to it.
What do you learn in typical guitar lessons?
In drum lessons, students will learn detailed instructions on the technical and artistic aspects of music. Students will learn fingering, chord progressions and sound control. Students will also learn rhythm exercises along with some basic music theory and musical background of the repertoire.
During the lesson, guitar instructors will give live feedback on how to improve the techniques and help the student understand the musical side of the music. At the end of each lesson, instructors will specifically assign the students which part of the music to work on. Students are expected to practice the music and fix the problematic areas before the next lesson. The more you improve the problems, overall music will sound more polished and you’ll gain confidence over time.
