About Concetta
Concetta Brehmer is an American clarinetist hailing from Traverse City, Michigan, where she graduated from Traverse City West Senior High School with honors in 2019. While in high school, Concetta was involved in every musical endeavor possible. She played and led in the Titan Marching Band as a drum major, was involved with both the Orchestra and advanced Wind Ensemble from her freshman year, won multiple gold medals in solo and ensemble, played in the MSBOA All-State band, and was involved in the pit for the school musicals, also both playing and leading/conducting.
Concetta’s passion for music and teaching was unwavering and pursued a degree in Instrumental Music Education and a degree in Clarinet Performance at Western Michigan University located in Kalamazoo, Michigan, and graduated Summa Cum Laude, Lee Honors College in 2023, and is also certified to teach K-12 music.
While in her undergraduate degree, Concetta was affiliated with National Association for Music Education (NAfME) and served on the executive board both college and state level, she also held leadership positions in the Beta Eta chapter of Sigma Alpha Iota, and was a drum major for the Bronco Marching Band for two years. Concetta also played in the WMU Wind Symphony and University Symphony Orchestra every year of her attendance at WMU, playing both principal and Eb clarinet. She heavily enjoyed chamber music, and played with the Invictus Winds Reed Quintet, the Freshman Woodwind Quintet, and the Fortis Clarinet Quartet. Concetta received many awards during her time at WMU, such as the Sigma Alpha Iota Sword of Honor, the Leonard V. Meretta Scholarship for excellence in musicianship in the Wind Symphony, and the Harold & Beulah McKee scholar as an outstanding senior award.
Concetta is now attending the University of North Carolina at Greensboro for her Masters in Clarinet Performance. Concetta is currently playing with the UNCG Wind Ensemble, the Graduate Wind Quintet, and holds a Graduate Assistantship for the clarinet studio. Her teachers include Dr. Ellen Breakfield-Glick, Professor Bradley Wong from WMU, Dr. Anthony Taylor, and Dr. Luke Ellard from UNCG.
