About Amelia
Amelia Whaley started her musical studies on the piano at age four before beginning the violin at age ten. From a young age, she received a solid musical education from wonderful teachers who inspired her to follow in their footsteps. Amelia holds a Master of Music degree in Violin Performance from the Lynn Conservatory of Music, as well as a Bachelor of Music degree (summa cum laude) from Iowa State University.
Amelia has served as concertmaster of the Iowa State University Symphony and Chamber Orchestras, and she performed for two years with the Lynn Philharmonia. She has also performed professionally with the Endless Mountain Music Festival orchestra. While at the Lynn Conservatory, Amelia received the Dean’s Award for Excellence in Graduate Education from the Conservatory of Music, and her research on Baroque violin repertoire earned her the 2023 Student Research Award for graduate students. Additionally, she has participated in masterclasses with renowned violinists such as Elmar Oliveira, Arnaud Sussmann, Philippe Quint, and I-Hao Lee, as well as with members of the Telegraph Quartet and the Merz Trio.
Currently, Amelia teaches violin full time and enjoys working with students to further their musical skills.
Teaching Philosophy
Amelia is committed to music education and enjoys teaching music in a variety of capacities. She has worked with private students, taught at an academy, and assisted with string instrument classes and orchestras at a public elementary school. Through teaching, Amelia hopes to share her enjoyment of music with others by encouraging excellence on the violin.
She believes in the importance of a solid technical foundation combined with exciting repertoire to help students progress. Additionally, she encourages a holistic music education that incorporates various genres of music, as well as training in basic music theory and history.
