What’s the difference between online and in-person piano lessons?
Private online piano lessons are very similar to in-person lessons, except more affordable and more convenient. In-person piano lessons require you to visit the lesson studio whereas online lessons can be simply set up with few digital equipments in the comfort of your home.
How do online piano lessons work for beginners?
First, it’s important to let your piano instructor know your personal goals and interests. What style are you looking for? Is it Classical, Pop or Hymns? Do you like the songs from the 80’s? Are you interested in learning Theory at the same time?
Then, our instructor will make recommendations from getting the right keyboard, equipment and lesson book (if applicable). After scheduling a regular lesson, try practicing piano on a regular basis. There’s no rush – what matters for adults is finding the right practice routine and continue developing both technical and musical skills over time.
The average price for a half hour piano lesson is $40. Live online lessons using Zoom or Skype charge between $25-50 for a half hour lesson. Local private one-on-one piano lessons range from $35-55 for a half hour lesson, while in-person group lessons can cost $20-25 for a half hour lesson.
Piano lesson pricing can vary widely depending on the teacher’s education, performing level and expertise, the location, years of teaching piano and lesson length. In-person private lessons typically charge more than online lessons, and the cost of individual or group piano lessons start as low as $20 per hour.
What do adults learn in typical piano lessons?
In general piano lessons, adult students will learn detailed instructions on the technical and artistic aspects of music. Students will learn fingering and hand position along with basic music theory and musical background of the repertoire.
In the lessons, piano teachers will give live feedback on how to improve the techniques and help the student understand the musical side of the music. At the end of each lesson, teachers will specifically assign the students which part of the music to work on. It’s expected for students to improve the overall playing before the next lesson.
What piano method books do adults use?
Piano instructors at Lesson with You encourage our adult students to use piano method books. These method books teach you how to apply the right technique, theory and musicality to your playing.
The lesson books are specifically curated for adult learners: Alfred’s Adults Piano and Faber Piano for Adults. There are many other lesson books our students use which you can check at our Shop page.
